Mailing Lists

Email lists are one of the simplest and most effective ways to communicate during a disaster. When things go wrong, there’s often a lot of confusion and conflicting information — mailing lists help everyone get on the same page and maintain a local consensus. Unlike SMS, email gives you wide dissemination, searchable archives, and works regardless of whether your neighbors have iPhones or Android phones. The lists below are hosted on groups.io or Google Groups — get accounts on both platforms, then join the lists relevant to where you live.

There are two kinds of these lists: neighborhood and regional. You will want to join your neighborhood list, and whichever of the regional lists makes sense given where you live.

Neighborhood List

Your neighborhood should have its own mailing list. Contact your neighborhood coordinator to join. This is your primary tool for communicating with everyone nearby.

Help keep it current as neighbors and tenants come and go — and make sure new neighbors join.

South Skyline Info — groups.io

La Honda Message Board — Google Groups

The main message board for the town of La Honda and the northern part of the South Skyline area. Since many fire services and CERT activations come from there, it’s useful to monitor even if you’re not in La Honda.
