La Honda is located in the Santa Cruz Mountains on State Route 84 between Skyline (Hwy 35) and the Pacific coast. It includes Cuesta La Honda Guild, as well as a number of homes and ranches scattered along Hwy 84 and N. Pescadero Creek Rd. A diverse habitat includes redwood forest, mixed woodland, chaparral, and grassy hillsides.

- La Honda Fire Brigade is made up of volunteers and also houses an emergency command center as well as a Sheriff substation.
- Many residents are CERT trained.
- Many residents are active Ham Radio/ARES operators.
- San Mateo Resource Conservation District (RCD) is implementing a 19-mile, ~250-acre circular fuel break project surrounding La Honda to reduce wildfire risk, partnered with La Honda Fire Brigade, Cal Fire, private landowners, and neighboring organizations. Learn more.
- La Honda is adjacent to one of Midpen’s largest and most diverse preserves, La Honda Creek Open Space Preserve.
- Mutual Assistance Community (MAC) is designed to facilitate friendship and communication for seniors. They meet monthly, aim to build friendships, share resources and assistance when needed to enable folks to age in place.
- An Emergency Phone Tree has been set up within MAC. Cuesta Guild has two areas of 8–10 households set up with a phone tree, with the intention of expanding further.
- San Gregorio Environmental Resource Center (SGERC) is a local organization focused on preserving and protecting habitat for endangered species in our local watershed.
- La Honda Google Groups is a way the scattered La Honda community stays in touch about events, concerns, and updates, and generally operates like a neighborhood watch.
